Join the Fun at Camp Read-A-Lot!!

On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Mitchell County Primary School and Mitchell County Elementary School partnered together at MCPS to hold Camp Read-A-Lot. Students and their families were treated to two hours of literacy games, informational sessions, reading time, and of course, S’mores! Games included such activities as alphabet fishing, reading skill scavenger hunts, sight word duck pond, trail mix station, and a multisyllabic words I-Spy game. Parents learned more about the Write Score test, and they were given the opportunity to read with their children by flashlight in tents with books provided by the MCPS media center. Finally, after completing three stations, reading in the gym, and taking a parent survey, everyone received S’mores and popcorn. The event was very well attended, and everyone there left with S’more reading skills. Click on the headline for more photos of the event!

2025 Celebrity Readers Featured Photo

2025 Celebrity Readers

Read Across America Week started out well on March 3, 2025 with the community coming out to support reading. Local citizens joined us here at MCPS to show students the importance of reading and the fun you can have with a good book. Celebrity Readers consisted of MCSS Board Office personnel including Superintendent Dr. Veronica Brown, retired educators, MCHS athletes, and librarians from MCMS and the public library. Every class had at least one celebrity reader; some even had two! A very special guest indeed put in an appearance and visited all the classrooms throughout the day--Mr. Cat-in-the-Hat himself! 2025 MCPS Black History Program

On Friday, February 28th, 2025, Mitchell County Primary School held their annual Black History Program. The theme for this year’s program was “Know the Past, Shape the Future.” Many notable African Americans were remembered and honored for their courage and accomplishments. The students did an outstanding job representing each one. The program was not only educational, but it was a touching tribute. The students, faculty, and staff always look forward to this event every year.
