Jump Rope for Heart at MCPS

Students at Mitchell County Primary School participated in Jump Rope for Heart on Thursday, March 1. It is an annual event that raises money for the American Heart Association. The event was held for grades K-1 in the gym. The students were eager to raise money to help save a life.

MCPS Students Visit Thronateeska Heritage Center

In culmination of their study on planets, Pre-K and three year-old students visited Thronateeska Heritage Center in Albany on February 20. They viewed a film on the solar system and toured the Science Museum. The students explored hands-on exhibits and learned about not only the solar system but about other topics such as weather and dinosaurs.

MCPS’s WBEN Channel 71 Broadcasters

WBEN, Channel 71 broadcasters were privileged to participate in the Mitchell County Board of Education meeting on October 17, 2017. Students led the board members and attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance and a Moment of Silence. The crew also was able to share a clip from one of their Morning Show broadcasts......

Mitchell County Primary School Teacher of the Year

Ms. Countessa Henderson has been a primary school teacher in the Mitchell County School System for seven years.  She received her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from Albany State University.   Ms. Henderson is continuously striving to encourage her students to succeed while collaborating with her peers on implementing innovative instructional strategies.  In her efforts to obtain professional learning experiences, Ms. Henderson has engaged in many activities that have contributed to her being an effective teacher and leader.  She is a member of the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) and has received training in Reading Horizons, co-teaching, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Formative Instructional Practices, and Mentor/Mentee collaboration.  In addition, she is a member of the school’s Leadership Team and a member of the district’s Curriculum Coordinating Council (CCC).
