On Feb 21, 2025, first graders presented a living wax museum as part of celebrating Black History Month. Students dressed up like famous and important black Americans. They designed a poster board detailing their person's life and answered questions about their person that were asked by the audience. All kinds of people were included in the presentation: inventors, actors, politicians, athletes, comedians, and activists. The students did a great job representing their person and teaching everyone about the important contributions of black Americans.

On Oct 31, students at MCPS took part in a trunk or treat event. Students traveled around the track to "trick or treat" at several staff cars. A great time was had by all. Enjoy a few photos of the day!

One student from every classroom will be chosen each month to be recognized by Dr. Blackshear for their outstanding behavior and hard work as the Student of the Month. Each month of the school year, a reader is chosen from each kindergarten, first, and second grade classroom. They are recognized for their hard work in reading and behavior in the media center. Students are given a certificate and a bookmark from Mrs. Smith, the MCPS media specialist, to remember their achievement

Making Our Mark on the World! Celebrating the book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds, International Dot Day is a time to realize that all of us are capable of leaving our mark on this world if we use our creativity and our thinking skills. Hope you enjoy a few pictures of the day.

September 15 through October 15, 2024 marks National Hispanic Heritage Month. This month is set aside to celebrate and honor the rich culture of Hispanic communities everywhere. Pictured are 2nd grade Hispanic students with the library display that honors the culture, pride, and unity of Hispanic heritage. Activities designed to showcase Hispanic life will be presented throughout the month.

Congratulations to Rebecca Bentley, MCPS Teacher of the Year. She was recognized at the system-wide meeting on July 30. She has been a teacher at MCPS for 14 years and is affectionately called "Coach Bentley" by her students.
